In a recent New York Times front page story, the struggle to get people to read has been tied to the use of computer and video games.  More and more publishers are linking the two, hoping that young people will read books if they are tied to electronic games, even if it is just reading the directions on how to play and move through the games levels. Advocacy Campaign: When you go to the airport do you find it stressful?  After going through security you arrive at the gate, only to find that the flight is delayed.  You finally find a seat and what do you find?  You find CNN overhead, telling you all the things you don't want to hear before getting on a plane, and providing information your children should not be exposed to.  PLEASE go to our Programs section above and click on Screens A-Z (or click here) for sample letters asking airports and CNN parent company, Time Warner, to be a bit more understanding.  Let us know when you send your letters so we can help let our legislators know.

Center for SCREEN-TIME Awareness launches A Lifestyle for the 21st Century, a campaign to reduce screen-time and encourage real experiences with real people in real time.

Family Dinner Night: Have you picked your night?  Each one of us is picking a night, that cannot change.  Pick yours and after dinner, pull out a board game, a deck of cards or something else to do and make a night of it.

VISIT OUR BLOG: Tell your stories, comment on ours and via "Contact us" send us pictures of what you do while living a life with a little less screen-time and a lot more ACTION!

We don't know how much credit we can take with our new FALL TURNOFF WEEK, but this is what we found in today's Wall Street Journal: (Click here)

This starts our first effort to discuss books that further our goals and objectives. Each month we will highlight a new book and hold a conference call to discuss it.

The first book in our series is:

Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder
by Richard Louv

The discussion will take place on Wednesday,October 15th at 4:00 PM EST. All are welcome to join in the conversation.  A call in number will be posted (it's below) at least one week before the call.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.  At the end of the call we will announce the book for the following month, which will then be posted on the website.

The book club will move off the home page and have a section of its own, where we will highlight books related to our issues.  This will include books for adults, educators, health care professionals and children. Link in TakeAction/Programs Menu or Here .

We are now working on a brand new edition of our Organizer's Kit.  This will be the first version to include programs for Turnoff Week for the classroom, living room and workplace.

In addition to Turnoff Week activities and information, the new Org Kit will also offer tools for long-term screen-time reduction.  This is part of our effort leading to Wellness in America: from the Classroom to the Living Room to the Workplace.  The new campaign understands that if we are to make significant changes in our children's lives, we must make them in our lives as well.

Please let us know what you think by adding your comments to our Forum Pages.
